I heard a story* that really spoke to me. I’ll paraphrase it: a little girl forgot to feed the chickens because an important guest came to visit. When her mother reminded her the guest volunteered to accompany her. She grabbed the big flashlight and pranced out into the yard, eager to show her new friend and his son the chickens. As she ran out the familiar path to the chicken coop, she instinctively leaped over the irrigation ditch and kept on going. Her new friend struggled to keep up and then unknowingly stepped right into the ditch, sinking his entire foot into the water. He groaned a little and followed her to the chicken coop. Before they headed back he kindly asked her to shine the light where he could see it. The woman sharing the story drew the comparison. She was shining her light, bouncing around in all different directions, but not shining it where those who are following could see. My intention is to shine my light where you can see. I have been on quite a journey, through many storms and found peace. I’m still navigating those storms and the peace is stronger and stronger as I go. I want you to have that same peace. I also recognize how much easier it is to see the light in darkness. When we have bright sunny days, the light is hard to see. Contrast brings out that light in our lives and we are able to see, if we trust enough to look. In this intense time of quarantine and abrupt change and interrupt in our lives, we are experiencing extreme contrast and we can rail against the limitations or look for the light. I will be sharing with you my journey in motherhood of looking for the light.
